Dr. Michelle Grosser is a music theorist, ludomusicologist, and educator with over 5 years of experience teaching at a wide range of institutions of higher learning. She grew up in New York and has earned degrees from Gettysburg College (B.A. in Music), the University of Texas at Austin (M.M in Music Theory), and the University of Toronto (Ph.D. in Music Theory). She is currently an Assistant Professor of Music Theory at Jacksonville State University, where she teaches courses in music theory and aural skills.
Her research is primarily concerned with music and sound in video games, with a special interest in immersion, embodied experience, and player subjectivity in contemporary games. Her most recent work, published in the Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board, looks at the music in Minecraft: Volume Alpha.
When she isn’t teaching or studying, Michelle loves to hike in the Appalachian foothills with her fiancé and their “oh-my-gosh-she-is-so-adorable” dog, Luna.
